Hintlesham and Chattisham Parish Council is sponsoring the development of a Neighbourhood Plan for the Parishes.

Updates will continue to be published in The Village Link and on the village website.

After a wide ranging consultation process, a draft Neighbourhood Plan has been developed and was submitted in January 2026  to Babergh District Council for an initial assessment.

This draft plan is now open for consultation from 23rd March to 15th May.  A copy of the latest version is attached on the next page. Feedback should be sent to: www.babergh.gov.uk/HintChatNP

If any residents wish to see a paper copy of the draft plan and to submit comments on paper, a copy can be seen by contacting Les Cole 07557473245 or Caroline Bates 07810830534

Following this next round of consutation, Babergh DC will appoint an independent examiner,  who will ensure the plan aligns with local and national policies,  and follows legal procedures. This is part of the statutory process of developing a Neighbourhood Plan.

Once the Draft Plan is assessed as fully compliant with legislation, it will be circulated to all residents in Hintlesham and Chattisham ahead of a statutory referendum on its adoption.  It is hoped that the external review will be completed this Spring to allow for a Referendum in July 2026

The revised draft plan and associated documents were submitted to Babergh Council in JANUARY 2026 -these documents are available on the next page.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

It is a Plan agreed by local people to decide how their parish should develop - or not - over the next decade or so. Whether the Plan is approved will ultimately be decided at a Parish Referendum when, if a majority of residents who vote , agree with the Plan, Babergh District Council will be required to adopt it.

When complete, it sits alongside the Local Plan for Babergh and national planning policies and is used by the District Council when making decisions on planning applications. That is why a Neighbourhood Plan is so important.

Following broad community consultation in September 2025, your comments were adopted into the Plan and changes to the initial draft plan were made.

Your detailed comments and the responses made,  are available for your review on the updates page,  within the Consultation Statement.
