NOTICE OF CASUAL VACANCY – PARISH COUNCILLOR

Hintlesham & Chattisham Parish Council has a current vacancy for a Parish Councillor. As no request has been received to hold a by-election, the Parish Council intends to fill the vacancy by co-option.


Could you be a Parish Councillor?

Parish Councillors represent the local community and help make decisions on issues affecting the villages of Hintlesham and Chattisham.

This is a voluntary role, but it is an opportunity to make a real difference to your local area.


What does the role involve?

  • Attending Parish Council meetings (usually held monthly)
  • Helping make decisions on local issues such as planning, highways, and village facilities
  • Supporting local projects and community improvements

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be 18 years of age or over and a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen, and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • You are registered as a local government elector for the parish; or
  • You have lived in the parish (or within 3 miles of it) for the last 12 months; or
  • You have occupied land or premises in the parish as owner or tenant for the last 12 months; or
  • Your principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the parish (or within 3 miles).

How to Apply

Anyone interested in being considered for co-option should submit an expression of interest in writing, including a short statement explaining why they wish to join the Parish Council.

Closing Date

Applications must be received by: 1 July 2026


Selection

The Parish Council will consider applications and make an appointment by co-option at the next Parish Council meeting.
